The bramble banks, Hayne Down

The bramble banks, Hayne Down

Returning from Italy's heat to Dartmoor's dormant spring. As I walk and look into the brambles covering the hillside, brown and wind burnt, I remember the Easter of 2011. Then it was soft and green, the wind blowing from the west. Over two weeks I watched the buds breaking, the leaves unfurling, reaching to the sun. Each day photosynthesising from their limp flesh, pink to the proud green cross of the bramble top.
