The Isles of Scilly, today walking on St Martins. The morning spent with archaeologists at Old Quay below Cruthers Hill. During September they have been excavating a neolithic settlement probably of the late 4th millennium BC. The previous day a mace head with a drilled perforation had been uncovered. This made of greenstone an igneous rocks, known as 'Blue Elvan. This stone would have been brought here, perhaps from Cornwall. It had great beauty and a strong presence, being handled for the first time in over 6,000 years.
