The melancholy of a gathering summer dusk, of light lost but still present as a fainter afterglow, has propelled Fabian Miller’s Romantic blue light, that blue which he draws from a blue glass container in the dark room, in a rite by which he imagines again the experience of ‘walking on Dartmoor at night’. This light escapes him, like Turner’s vain attempt to secure the sun on his deathbed. 'I wanted to make pictures out of the experience of walking on Dartmoor at night, that you could be aware of residual light, of light still being there.’
